NECO Confirms Release of 2026 SSCE Results
The National Examinations Council announced the release on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11am. The event took place at the council’s headquarters on Kilometre 8, Bida Road, Minna, Niger State.
NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, made the announcement. He had chaired the final Award Committee meeting two days earlier, and that meeting cleared the results for public release.
A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for this exam. The examination itself ran from June 15 to July 23, 2026. Notably, this was the first SSCE sitting conducted under NECO’s new Computer Based Testing transition, and that shift affected both the exam format and the processing timeline.
Back in July 2026, NECO had promised results by the first week of September. The council eventually pushed slightly past that target. Still, the September 24 release brought relief to millions of students and parents who worried that admission portals might close before results arrived.
How to Check Your NECO 2026 Result Online
Checking your result is simple once you have your result checker token. Just follow these steps:
- Visit the official NECO result portal at result.neco.gov.ng
- Select the examination year, 2026, and choose SSCE Internal as your examination type
- Enter your examination number exactly as it appears on your registration slip
- Input your result checker token, also called a scratch card pin or token number
- Click submit to view your full result, including every subject you sat for
Double check every digit before you submit. A single wrong number in your exam number or token will trigger an error message. This is often why candidates panic, thinking their result is missing, when it’s really just a typing mistake.
How to Check Your NECO Result by SMS
Not everyone has stable internet access. Thankfully, NECO has a solution for that too. You can check your result using any basic mobile phone through SMS.
Format your message exactly like this: NECO your exam number your token 2026
For example, say your exam number is 12345678AB and your token is 686442341122. Your message should read: NECO12345678AB6864423411222026
Send this message to 32327. A small service charge applies, usually around fifty naira. You should receive your result within minutes, though the exact time depends on your network provider.
Buying Your Result Checker Token
Haven’t purchased your token yet? Be careful here. Avoid random links, agents, or unofficial websites claiming to sell “quick” or “upgraded” checker cards. NECO has repeatedly warned that these are scams targeting anxious candidates. Instead, buy your token only through the official NECO portal or through authorized banks and vendor outlets listed on NECO’s website.
What to Do If Your Result Shows a Discrepancy
Sometimes a result may show as withheld, missing a subject, or flagged for further checks. If this happens to you, stay calm.
Do not pay anyone who promises to “fix” your result quickly for a fee. That’s not how NECO works, and it’s a common trick used on worried candidates. Instead, visit the nearest NECO state office with your original registration documents. Your school should also submit a formal query on your behalf. In most cases, NECO resolves genuine discrepancies once proper documentation is provided.
What Your NECO Result Means for Admission
Your NECO SSCE result plays a central role in university admission. Most institutions require a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This applies across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria, and it holds true whether you’re combining NECO with WAEC or using NECO alone.
So what comes next? If your result meets your course requirements, move quickly. Complete your JAMB registration if you haven’t already, or proceed to Post UTME screening for your target institution. Keep both your NECO result and JAMB documents within easy reach, since admission portals will likely request them during registration and clearance.
